14th Annual Mt. Residents Night Out
Sue Pierce and Mona Raby
The 14th Annual Mt. Residents Night Out (MRNO) will be held the evening of Tuesday, August 5th, 6pm-8:30 pm at the Loma Gazebo-Playfield, 23845 Summit Road. Admission is free to this community event hosted by the Loma Prieta Community Foundation and Redwood Estates Services Association.
Four prizes will be raffled during the evening. Raffle tickets are free and are limited to one per person.
Nonno’s will provide a barbeque dinner for $5 a person. Tickets can be purchased at the event or before at either Nonno’s or the RESA office (for office hours, call 408-353-1866).
Similar to the National Night Out events happening around the country, MRNO’s primary purpose is to promote community security and safety by: 1) meeting with staff from public safety agencies like the Sheriff Departments, CHP, and fire departments. 2) meeting with volunteers from local organizations, especially emergency response groups like CERT, MERC-Red Cross, and Amateur Radio Emergency Services; 3) most of all, meeting with other member of our mountain area. Plan to visit the information tables and displays, it is amazing what you will learn.
One of the great things about MRNO is being able to see some of the specialty equipment used by law enforcement departments and talk with the personnel. What is brought varies from year-to-year depending upon availability. In past years some of the specialty units have included search & rescue dogs, water rescue, bomb squad, bomb sniffing dogs, and a SWAT unit. We have requested child identification finger printing be available.
Smokey Bear is expected to make an appearance.
Additionally, there will be two presentations in the Redwood Amphitheater: 1) Firesafe Clearances, 2) Raising Backyard Chickens.
